West Ham United January plans hit by FFP restrictions?

West Ham United's plans for the January transfer window may reportedly be hit by concerns over their FFP position.

West Ham United may reportedly have a limited transfer budget for the January window.

The Hammers have failed to sufficiently build on last season's Europa Conference League and they only sitting in ninth position in the Premier League table.

Eight points separate the Hammers from fifth-placed Aston Villa, with their standing only boosted by a 3-2 triumph over Nottingham Forest before the November international break.

As a result of their inconsistency, particularly on the domestic front, David Moyes is believed to be keen on making additions at the midway point of the campaign.

While West Ham are arguably well stocked in the centre of the pitch, they have conceded 22 goals from just 12 matches in England's top flight during 2023-24.

Furthermore, West Ham's strikers have failed to impress on the whole as Michail Antonio and Danny Ings have netted just twice between them, and Moyes has been left reliant on Jarrod Bowen.

Reports have indicated that Moyes may look to sign a fresh face for his forward line, with another defender not out of the question either.

Nevertheless, according to the Evening Standard, West Ham will be limited in what they can do due to FFP restrictions.

Despite the funds generated from the sale of Declan Rice, who is also an academy graduate, the East Londoners spent big on four players to strengthen their squad.

West Ham are in a position where they must meet all UEFA and Premier League regulations, and the club are on the watchlist of the former courtesy of moving close to the allowed parameters.

Moyes may allegedly have to be more stringent when it comes to scouring the market, with West Ham not in a position where they can spend big money on a fresh face for their attack.

Antonio is currently expected to be absent for the next two to three weeks, while Bowen should return from the issue that kept him out of England's fixture in North Macedonia in the short term.

RB Leipzig attacker Timo Werner and Manchester United forward Anthony Martial have each been linked with a switch to the London Stadium. body check tags ::
