Manchester United Women prepare to make history this weekend, as Marc Skinner's side lock horns with Everton Ladies at Old Trafford in Sunday's Women's Super League clash.

The encounter marks the first time in the women's team's short history that they will play in front of fans at the Theatre of Dreams after defeating West Ham United in a behind-closed-doors fixture last year.

Skinner's side are well-placed to qualify for the Champions League - entering the contest third in the table and level on points with Manchester City after their bitter rivals thrashed Everton 4-0 in midweek.

Man United painfully dropped two points right at the death against West Ham last time out but head into Sunday's game having taken seven points from the last nine on offer, and striker Alessia Russo has been vital to the club's continental push.

The 23-year-old is enjoying her second season with Man United and already has nine goals to her name from all competitions this season - seven of which have come in the WSL.

After a devastating hamstring injury cut her debut season at the club short, Russo has recovered to lead the line with aplomb, and no English player has scored more than her in the WSL this season - Arsenal's Beth Mead also has seven to her name.

A former Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion prospect, Russo - a lifelong Red Devils fan - heads into Sunday's game having struck four goals in her last seven WSL matches, while her hat-trick in England Women's 20-0 drubbing of Latvia last year was the fastest hat-trick by any player in history for England.

Here, Russo speaks to Sports Mole about the imminent game at Old Trafford, why fans should come to the Theatre of Dreams to support Skinner's team and the progress that still needs to be made in women's football.

We have conducted this interview with Alessia Russo in collaboration with Manchester United's Official Electrical Styling Partner, Remington. Check out their Manchester United Styling collection here.
