Marseille missed the chance to go four points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a 1-1 draw at Lorient this evening.
After a cagey opening half-hour, Marseille took the lead in the 32nd minute when Dimitri Payet finished off a swift counter-attack by curling into the top corner.
Lorient levelled within five minutes thanks to former Marseille player Jordan Ayew, who scored from the penalty spot after Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda had upended Benjamin Jeannot.
Marseille had the better chances in the second half, but they couldn't find a second goal to take home the three points.
The draw means that Paris Saint-Germain could move one point clear of Marseille at the summit if they win their 10th game in a row at Lille tomorrow night.
Lorient extend their unbeaten run to three games and move up one place to 14th in the table.
