Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has broken two fingers after punching a dressing-room wall in frustration at the weekend.
The 26-year-old Dutchman, who has been with the Magpies for two seasons, is thought to have attacked the wall during the half-time interval after he suffered a groin injury during a fall in the first half of the game at Southampton.
Newcastle went on to lose the game 3-1 to leave them six points adrift of safety in the Premier League following a run of eight defeats in 10 games.
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, Janmaat was seen leaving St Mary's in a sling and is now being assessed for injuries sustained on and off the field.
The newspaper claims that Janmaat "later admitted that his actions had been stupid" but was just one of a number of players angered by the side's display.
Janmaat is expected to be fit to feature in Newcastle's home encounter with Swansea City this weekend.
