Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has admitted that he does not know how long Remy Cabella will be injured for.
On Saturday, French publication L'Equipe reported that the playmaker would be sidelined for eight weeks with a thigh problem, ruling him out of the Magpies' start to the season.
However, the ex-Derby County boss says that he remains unsure over the severity of the Frenchman's injury.
"We don't know how long it is exactly but just before we came away he felt something in his thigh," McClaren told The Chronicle.
"We won't take risks with players and we'll just have to see how long that will be."
Striker Emmanuel Riviere is also struggling to be fit for the start of the 2015-16 campaign after flying home from the Magpies' pre-season tour for a knee operation.
