Check out Sports Mole's coverage of the Capital One Cup clash between Newcastle United and Leeds United at St James' Park.

Newcastle United and Leeds United met in the third round of the Capital One Cup at St James' Park.

The visitors were hoping to emulate their success of last season when they reached the quarter-finals, while the Magpies were looking to bounce back from a weekend defeat to Hull City.

Alan Pardew's side advanced to the fourth round of the competition with a comfortable 2-0 win against Brian McDermott's men, as Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran found the net on Tyneside.

Follow how all the action unfolded in our commentary below.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Capital One Cup clash between Newcastle United and Leeds United.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will be hoping that his side can bounce back from their weekend defeat to Hull City as they lost the game at St James' Park despite taking the lead twice through Loic Remy.
Leeds are going through similar struggles in the Championship as they have lost their last two games to Burnley and Reading, which has seen them fall to 13th in the table.
The teams have been announced at St James' Park and we'll start with the home side.
NEWCASTLE STARTING XI: Krul, Debuchy, Williamson, Coloccini, Dummett, Anita, Tiote, Marveaux, Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi, Cisse
NEWCASTLE SUBS: Alnwick, Yanga-Mbiwa, Gosling, Bigirimana, Obertan, Vuckic, Ben Arfa
LEEDS STARTING XI: Kenny, Byram, Wootton, Pearce, Warnock, Austin, Mowatt, Tonge, McCormack, Poleon, Smith.
LEEDS SUBS: Cairns, Murphy, Green, Hunt, White, Brown, Diouf
Pardew makes six changes to his Newcastle team that lost to Hull at the weekend. In come Mike Williamson, Paul Dummett, Cheick Tiote, Sylvain Marveaux, Yoan Gouffran and Sammy Ameobi, as the Magpies boss looks to keep his players fresh for their Premier League campaign.
Hatem Ben Arfa has to settle for a place on the bench tonight while Davide Santon, Moussa Sissoko, Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy are rested from the squad by Pardew.
McDermott has made four changes to his side that were beaten by Burnley. Alex Mowatt, Dominic Poleon, Stephen Warnock and Matt Smith all come into the team to replace Luke Varney, El-Hadji Diouf, Luke Murphy and Aidy White.
Leeds reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season before they were beaten by Chelsea 5-1 at Elland Road. The Whites took the Premier League scalps of Everton and Southampton and will be looking to repeat that feat tonight.
Tonight's visitors have won the competition once in their history, against Arsenal in 1968 when Terry Cooper's goal was enough to secure the win. They also reached the final in 1996 but were defeated 3-0 by Aston Villa.
The Magpies crashed out of the competition last season in the third round when they were defeated by Manchester United, so they have already equalled their feat of last year.
Newcastle have never won the League Cup. The closest they came was in 1976 when they reached the final at Wembley but they lost to Manchester City.
Looking at the teams tonight, Newcastle will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Cisse leading the line on his own. He will be backed up with the trio of Ameobi, Gouffran and Marveaux, allowing Tiote and Anita to sit in front of the back four.
Leeds will look to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with a front three of Smith, McCormack and Poleon. Austin, Tonge and Mowatt will operate in the midfield, and don't be surprised to see McCormack and Poleon drop into the wing areas to create a 4-5-1 when the Whites don't have the ball.
We're edging closer to kickoff and Pardew has urged his side to get a win tonight to make a push for the Capital One Cup trophy, he told the club's official website: "Our fans want to win a trophy, go to Wembley and see some silverware. And so do I, trust me. I've come very, very close before and I want to win something."
The players are making their way out onto the pitch and we should be underway shortly.
We're underway at St James' Park.
The Magpies are controlling possession at the minute and are encamped in the Leeds half, they just need a final ball to put the visitors defence under pressure.
Anita finds a through ball for Cisse, who from a tight angle, fires at goal but Wooton is there to make a block and divert the ball behind for a corner.
OFF THE BAR!!! McCormack hits the bar for the visitors as he tries to chip Krul from distance and his effort looped over the keeper but it smacked the woodwork and bounced clear.
That was close for the visitors, McCormack was afforded all the time in the world to pick his spot from the edge of the area but he couldn't find the back of the net. Could that be costly?
Leeds are seeing a lot of the ball in midfield in these early stages and they seem a lot more settled than the home side at the moment. Newcastle are struggling to get a foot on the ball.
CHANCE! Cisse misses two sitters in a row, as he latches onto Debuchy's cross. First he takes a swing at the ball in with a volley and mishits it, the ball comes straight back to him and this time he scuffs his shot with his left foot from six yards out.
Better from the hosts in the last few minutes as they've controlled possession as Anita and Marveux get on the ball and string some passes together. Not much of an attacking threat yet though.
CHANCE! Coloccini gets his head to the ball from a Marveaux corner and Pearce has to clear the ball away off the line. It looked to be going wide but the defender wasn't going to take any chances.
Leeds break and they have a three and two situation against the Magpies defence but Poleon can't keep himself onside from McCormack's through ball.
Debuchy does well for Newcastle as Tonge looks to thread a ball through for Poleon, who initially gets behind the defender, but the Frenchman out muscles the striker and wins the ball and clears the danger.
CHANCE! Ameobi finds space in the area but he can't find the target with his headed effort as it goes just wide of the post, from Gouffran's cross.
Newcastle are growing into this game and are starting to dominate possession but are lacking that clinical edge in front of goal.
SHOT! Tiote tries an effort from distance but it's blocked by Pearce on its way to goal and the visitors clear the danger.
CHANCE! Gouffran raids down the right and digs out a cross to the back post where he finds Cisse, the striker takes the ball down but fires his effort straight into the side netting from a tight angle. There were better options in the middle had he chosen to square the ball.
SAVE! Krul is forced into action as McCormack's cross deflects off Coloccini and rolls towards the bottom corner but the Dutchman sticks out a hand to turn it past the post.
GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Leeds (Cisse)
Newcastle take the lead and it's Cisse who has opened the scoring as Ameobi raided down the right and hit a pinpoint left-footed cross into the penalty area where the striker was waiting and he made no mistake heading past Kenny. A lovely move.
CHANCE! Leeds are nearly level immediately as Smith wins a header in the penalty area and knocks the ball back to Warnock who drills a left-footed shot at goal, which goes inches wide.
Leeds have reacted well to going behind and are trying to force the issue against the Magpies, they're not lying down without a fight in this game.
Smith goes down in the area under the challenge of Coloccin and looks inquiringly at the referee but he waves play on. It would have been extremely harsh on the Argentine if that was given.
Newcastle are doing well to calm the game down just before the break, Anita has had a solid first half and has used the ball well in possession.
Ameobi finds space down the left yet again and he lifts a decent cross to the back post where Debuchy is waiting, he heads at goal but his effort goes well over the bar under pressure from Warnock.
HALF-TIME: Newcastle 1-0 Leeds
So Newcastle are leading at the break in this Capital One Cup clash thanks to Papiss Cisse's first goal of the season, it what was a pretty even first half of football at St James' Park.
Leeds could have taken the lead early on but Ross McCormack saw his chipped effort crash off the crossbar and bounce to safety after he lobbed Tim Krul. Stephen Warnock also had an low shot, which went wide by inches so the visitors have had their moments in this game.
However, the Magpies produced the one bit of quality when it was needed as Sammy Ameobi lifted a wonderful cross into the area for Cisse to head home. It's still all to play for in this game in the second half, in a very entertaining cup tie.
The players are back out on the field and we should be back underway shortly.
We're back underway at St James' Park.
A decent opportunity for Leeds to put the Newcastle defence under pressure as Mowatt picks the ball up uncontested on the left, with all the time in the world to pick out a teammate, he lifts his cross onto the roof of the net.
Ameobi nearly gets another dangerous cross into the area but this time Byram gets back at him just as he was about to pull the trigger and the full back cleared the danger.
Smith nearly gets an effort at goal as Tonge lifts a cross into the the area and the striker battles with Coloccini for the header, he gets contact on the ball but his effort sails harmlessly wide.
Newcastle win a free kick and Marveaux lines the ball up from 25 yards out but his strike goes straight into the wall and Leeds clear the danger. A waste from the midfielder.
Marveaux drives forward again, he fakes a pass to Cisse and continues his run, he shoots with his left-foot but his effort goes wide of the post. Better industry from the Frenchman this half.
McCormack finds space on the right and visitor and digs out another cross in the direction of Smith, who heads at goal but his effort goes wide of the target from yards out. Fortunately for the striker he was offside anyway.
Substitutions! Aidan White and El-Hadji Diouf replace Michael Tonge and Dominic Poleon for the visitors.
GOAL! Newcastle 2-0 Leeds (Gouffran)
Newcastle double their lead as Gouffran finds the net with a screamer from the edge of the area. Ameobi feeds him the ball with his back to goal, he turns his man and lashes a shot with his right foot into the top corner. A lovely strike!
Leeds look to try and get back in the game immediately as Warnock raids down the left but his cross is comfortably gathered by Krul after it was partially blocked by Debuchy.
Ameobi peels off his man and Marveaux tries to thread him behind the Leeds defence with a through ball but Pearce reads the pass and intercepts and clears. Good defending.
Substitute Obertan raids down the left and slides a pass to Dummett on the overlap, he drills a low cross into the area, which misses everyone and goes out for a goal kick. All that needed was a touch and that was in.
Leeds are struggling now, they just can't get a hold of the ball and retain possession long enough to threaten the Magpies.
CHANCE! Obertan should have out put this game out of sight as he robbed Austin of the ball and Gouffran played him one-on-one with Kenny but the keeper saved his low effort and Austin cleared the trickling shot away from goal.
Solid play from the Magpies midfield as they are retaining the ball well and keeping it away from the visitors. It will take something special for Leeds to get back into this one.
YELLOW CARD! Frustrations starting to boil over for the visitors now as Mowatt is booked for a late challenge on Gosling.
The Magpies look quite content just to see out their lead, they've done enough to win the game and are running the ball to the corners to kill the clock.
Diouf wins a corner off the legs of Debuchy, which Leeds take quickly but as Warnock tries to knock in a cross his touch is too heavy and the ball goes out for a Newcastle throw-in.
Diouf shows industry again as he gets around the back of the Newcastle defence beating Dummett and fires a low ball into the area but Williamson is there to clear the danger. The Magpies have been fairly solid at the back for the majority of the evening.
There will be three minutes of added time.
McCormack gets forward for the visitors and tries to find the overlapping run of Warnock but Debuchy cuts out the pass. It's been that sort of second half for Leeds.
Obertan collects Debuchy's long ball forward and races into the box and shoots at goal but his low effort is beaten away by Kenny and Pearce hacks away the danger. Obertan should have had a couple of goals tonight.
FULL-TIME: Newcastle 2-0 Leeds
Newcastle are through to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup with a convincing win at St James' Park tonight with the goals coming from Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran.
Leeds had their chances but couldn't hit the back of the net. Ross McCormack came closest in the fifth minute when he was unlucky to see his lobbed effort hit the bar. Apart from that, the visitors barely threatened.
Alan Pardew will be delighted to see his side progress with a professional performance and it appeared to be the perfect remedy for their defeat in the Premier League last weekend.
Newcastle will enter the draw for the fourth round, which will be made later today so keep your eyes peeled for that when it happens with us at Sports Mole.
Thanks for joining over live commentary tonight. Stay tuned with us for all the build-up to the weekend's games. Until then, goodbye.
