Joey Barton has been fined two weeks' wages by Newcastle due to his continued rants on Twitter.
The midfielder was given permission to leave the North East club on Monday after criticising the club’s transfer policy via the social networking site.
The 28-year-old, who has been openly commenting on the developments surrounding his release, launched another outburst regarding supposed claims from the club.
“If the club want to put out all these false statements via the Chronicle, then let them do that. Everyone here knows, I speak the truth,” Barton posted on Twitter.
“I also have too much respect for my teammates and the fans, to get in a tit for tat war with them. I have too much self-worth and dignity.”
The former Manchester City player later revealed that the Premier League club has docked a fortnight’s wages.
“Ha ha the inevitable, 2 weeks wages fine has just arrived. Needless to say it shall be appealed forthwith. #kickingamanwhilsthesdownha,” he continued.
Barton was not permitted to train with his teammates today.
