Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that captain Fabricio Coloccini will play no part in this weekend's Wear-Tyne derby.
The Argentine defender failed to return to fitness from a groin injury in the Magpies' 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Saturday and is expected to be on the sidelines for Sunday's bout against Sunderland.
Due to Coloccini's injury, Pardew has claimed that he is likely to turn to Steven Taylor to line up in defence following Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's red card against Liverpool.
"Colo definitely won't be available for Sunderland," Pardew told The Chronicle.
"We think Steven's going to be okay. He was touch and go to train last week but we just held him back."
Newcastle are currently 10th in the Premier League table.
