Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has claimed that the 0-0 draw with Porto on Saturday was good for building confidence ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Slovakia international put in a man-of-the-match performance at the Estadio do Dragao, keeping the dominant Portuguese champions at bay en route to a clean sheet.
Dubravka converted his loan move from Sparta Prague into a permanent switch during the summer after impressing in the second half of the 2017-18 season for the Magpies.
"It was hard to call it a friendly because for me every game is special against this kind of quality of opposition means you play at 100%," Dubravka told Chronicle Live.
"It was good to try a few things during the game because it's pre-season and you have to try things. It was a quality, quality opposition.
"I think it was a good test for us against a team like Porto because they have quality so we had to be ready for them. We can bring this confidence into the league."
Newcastle get their Premier League season underway with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur on August 11.
