Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has revealed that he feels "born again" after surviving testicular cancer.
The Argentine made a popular return as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on March 4, after 18 months on the sidelines.
He underwent surgery to remove his left testicle in September 2014 before undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and now Gutierrez wants to earn himself at extension to his St James' Park contract, which expires in the summer.
"It was really emotional to be back. I feel born again, and like I'm enjoying things for the first time," he told BBC Sport
"Of course now I want to prove I can still be a Premier League player. I know my situation here is a little tricky. The one thing I can do is work hard and do my best. I want to stay in England and I love the Premier League but I don't know about the future.
"At the present I am with Newcastle and have two months to finish the season. When the season finishes, I start thinking about the future."
The 31-year-old has made 197 appearances for the Magpies since joining from Real Mallorca in July 2008.
