Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has admitted that was he was "stupid" to be sent off in the first half of his side's 2-0 defeat to Swansea City.
The Netherlands international was booked twice in 24 minutes at the Liberty Stadium for two clumsy challenges on Jefferson Montero as goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew fired Garry Monk's men to the victory.
He told the club's official website: "I'm very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my teammates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with 10 men is very difficult.
"The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, [Montero] ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.
"With 11 men at Swansea it is already hard but with 10 men it makes it almost impossible. We didn't give up though, and the rest of the team gave it everything, but it was a disappointing game."
Janmaat will miss Newcastle's trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford as a result of his dismissal.
