Mark Hughes has warned his Stoke City side to expect a backlash from Newcastle United when the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle come into the game after Fabricio Coloccini's red card put them on course to lose 3-0 to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby last weekend.
Stoke were in action in midweek as they edged out Chelsea on penalties in the fourth round of the League Cup, and Hughes believes that his players will have to be on top form again when they visit St James' Park.
"I thought they were the better team at Sunderland before the sending-off. They will think they were hard done by and will want to put that right this weekend," the Potters boss told reporters.
"It is always difficult to play Newcastle away and we will need to replicate the performance levels we showed on Tuesday if we are to get a positive result."
Stoke currently occupy 14th spot in the Premier League.
