Newcastle United and Arsenal have been charged by the Football Association with failing to control their players during Saturday's Premier League fixture at St James' Park.
Both clubs have been charged following a mass confrontation of players which resulted in a red card being issued to Arsenal debutant Gervinho by referee Peter Walton.
Arsenal have today confirmed that they intend to appeal against the red card handed to the Ivorian.
Gunners midfielder Alex Song has been charged separately by the FA with violent conduct following a stamp on Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton.
Song has until 6pm tomorrow to answer the charge while the two clubs must respond by 4pm on Thursday, August 18.
The fixture ended 0-0.
