Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has tipped midfielder Cheick Tiote for a "big season" after being in good shape for pre-season.
Pardew said that Tiote did not return in decent fitness last summer but has insisted now that the Ivorian is set for a strong season with the Magpies.
"Cheick looks 10 times better than he did last year, and I absolutely mean that," Pardew told the Shields Gazette.
"He did not come back well last summer, if I am honest. However, he has summered well this time and is in great physical shape.
"It is going to be a big season for Cheick."
Tiote signed for Newcastle from FC Twente in the summer of 2010.
