Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has played down his side's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City, claiming that his team "should have won" the match.

Wilfried Bony scored a brace at St James' Park, including a penalty in injury time, to cancel out Shola Ameobi's first-half strike.

Pardew told reporters after the game: "It was a game that looked like it was going to be a draw. I felt we played a lot better and that last goal was a killer blow.

"We should have won, but errors in both halves cost us dear. I'm disappointed because the effort was there, but we're making errors and getting punished for it and we can't afford to do that on the run we are on.

"We're going to have to grin and bear it and see what we can do. I'm pretty sure I would have stopped that last goal had I been on the sidelines, but that's how it is."

Newcastle have lost their last five Premier League games and currently sit in ninth place.
