Cheick Tiote has said that Newcastle United are "hurting" following their Tyne-Wear derby defeat to Sunderland at the weekend.
The Magpies were beaten 2-1 by their local rivals on Sunday, and face a Capital One Cup tie against Manchester City tomorrow evening.
The midfielder told the team's website: "Everyone is hurting. We have to just keep going and I think the next game is going to be better.
"I think it's going to be also a tough game but we need to be ready for that. It's not going to be an easy game and after that we've got Chelsea at home.
"They're two big, tough games for us but that's football. We are Newcastle so we need to do everything right and try to win the next game."
Newcastle currently sit 11th in the Premier League table.
