Triumphant Alan Pardew happy to silence Newcastle United critics

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says that Sunday's win away to Tottenham Hotspur is proof that he knows what he is doing.

Alan Pardew has claimed that Sunday's 2-1 win away to Tottenham Hotspur is proof that he remains the right man to lead Newcastle United.

The Magpies staged a second-half comeback as goals from Ayoze Perez and Sammy Ameobi helped Newcastle to their second victory of the Premier League season.

They only ended a seven-game winless streak by beating Leicester City last week, with Pardew bearing the brunt of intense criticism from the fanbase following that barren spell.

However, the 53-year-old, who recently celebrated his 700th game in management, hopes that he has now earned a reprieve from the United boo boys.

"At the moment, the Geordie nation does not really think I am good enough so hopefully that has ticked one box that I do know what I am doing," he told Sky Sports News.

"I have been here for 701 games now so it is pleasing for me and for my team, because we do a lot stuff that we think is important for the team. But [the players] have to carry it out. At the end of the day, you are as good as your players.

"We have got some belief in them and they showed they are fighting for the shirt. That is what our fans want to see."

Newcastle moved up to 14th in the Premier League table following the win.
