Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has admitted his excitement ahead of his club's Europa League campaign.

The Magpies have enjoyed some historic nights in Europe, and Williamson has revealed teammate Shola Ameobi has been passing on his experiences to the squad.

Williamson told The Shields Gazette: "Shola has told me about some of the European nights down the years.

"Some of the games at St James' Park sound incredible. The atmosphere's already good, so European football should be even better. I just can't wait."

Williamson made 22 league appearances for Newcastle last season.
