Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-2 victory over Everton on Sunday.

Papiss Cisse, Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback were all on the scoresheet for the Magpies, who trailed to a fifth-minute effort from Everton's Arouna Kone.

The visitors scored their second late on through Kevin Mirallas, but Newcastle held on to secure all three points.

The defeat for Everton was their eighth in the league this season, which has left the Toffees in 12th position in the table. Newcastle, meanwhile, have moved into ninth.

Here, Sports Mole analyses how each individual player performed during the Premier League affair.

NEWCASTLE

Goal

Jak Alnwick: Did not have much to do in terms of saves, but he looked a little vulnerable to high crosses. Still finding his way at this level of football. (6/10)

Defence

Daryl Janmaat: A constant threat down the right for Newcastle. Was always willing to join play in the final third, while the right-back's defensive work was also solid. (7/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Tidy enough in possession of the ball, but was caught high up the field for both of Everton's goals. Steady, but with a couple of poor moments. (6/10)

Mike Williamson: Did brilliantly to set up Cisse for Newcastle's first of the match, but like Coloccini, was caught ball-watching for both of Everton's goals. (6/10)

Paul Dummett: Has been one of Newcastle's most consistent performers this season and that was again the case here. Strong and composed performance from the youngster. (7/10)

Midfield

Jack Colback: One of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment. Was all over the pitch and scored his side's third with a well-taken finish in the second period. (8/10)

Moussa Sissoko: Should have scored in the first half, but a heavy touch cost him his chance. Responded to produce a powerful and effective second-half performance. (7/10)

Cheick Tiote: Tasked with providing support to his back four, but looked a little off the pace. Was a touch fortunate not to be booked for a couple of late challenges. (6/10)

Attack

Ayoze Perez: Always involved and always dangerous. Netted his side's second with a brilliant finish, before rattling the post late on. A real star at St James'. (8/10)

Papiss Cisse: Levelled the scores with a super finish, but might have seen red in the first period for an elbow on Seamus Coleman, which was not seen by the referee. (7/10)

Yoan Gouffran: Worked hard and had a couple of opportunities, but could not make his mark. Was outshone by hie fellow attackers on the day. (6/10)

Substitutes

Emmanuel Riviere: Had a couple of half-chances as the match became stretched late on, but the former Monaco forward could not find the back of the net. (6/10)

Remy Cabella: Should have scored late on after bursting through on goal, but could not beat the goalkeeper. A lively final couple of minutes from the Frenchman. (6/10)

EVERTON

Goal

Joel Robles: Made a couple of smart saves, especially in the second period, but perhaps should have been a touch quicker off his line to deny Newcastle a third goal. (6/10)

Defence

Seamus Coleman: Given licence to break forward, but the right-back was not his usual self in the final third. Currently going through a frustrating spell. (6/10)

Sylvain Distin: Was the experienced head at the heart of the Everton defence, but the Frenchman looked a little off the pace. Struggled to deal with the movement from Cisse and Perez. (6/10)

Luke Garbutt: Given his first Premier League start against Newcastle and looked capable at this level of football. Was one of his side's better performers on the day. (6/10)

Antolin Alcaraz: A favourite of Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic, but the Spaniard had a tough match here. Looked unable to cope with the movement from the Newcastle attack. (5/10)

Leighton Baines: Started in a midfield role before dropping deeper, but remained his side's main outlet in wide areas. Set up a couple of chances late on with some brilliant wide play. (7/10)

Midfield

Gareth Barry: Captained the team due to the absence of Phil Jagielka, but the midfielder was well short of his best. Lucky to escape a booking following some rash second-half challenges. (5/10)

James McCarthy: Was withdrawn at the interval on his return to the Everton team. Picked up a booking and still looked to be struggling with injury. (5/10)

Aiden McGeady: Handed the chance to impress, but the Scot struggled to influence the match. Fired one effort over the crossbar in the first period, but that was really about it. (5/10)

Attack

Samuel Eto'o: Had a golden chance in the second period, but fired high and wide of the crossbar. Was some way short of his best. (5/10)

Arouna Kone: Netted his first Everton goal five minutes into the match and caused problems with his movement. Can be fairly pleased with his performance on a personal level. (7/10)

Substitutes

Ross Barkley: Showed his promise with some powerful runs, but it was the midfielder's poor touch that allowed Colback to steal in and score Newcastle's third of the match. (6/10)

Kevin Mirallas: Immediately made Everton a different prospect. Scored his side's second with a brilliant finish and caused all sorts of problems in the final third of the field. (7/10)

Romelu Lukaku: Introduced 20 minutes from time and brought a different dimension to the attack. Really needs a goal. (6/10)
