Dwight Gayle has reportedly resolved to fight for his place in Steve Bruce's starting XI at Newcastle United this season after moves to two Championship sides both broke down.
The striker is said to have turned down a proposed second loan move to West Bromwich Albion - for whom he scored 24 goals last season - with a guaranteed £15m transfer should the Baggies win promotion.
Stoke City were another club interested in securing Gayle's signature, but the Potters failed to reach a consensus over wages with the 28-year-old.
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, Gayle will now focus on reasserting himself on Newcastle's starting XI after opting against another loan deal at West Brom and failing to reach an agreement with Stoke.
Bruce, who took over at St James' Park this summer, is said to be open to using Gayle, who missed most of pre-season due to injury.
However, the striker faces tough competition at number nine after the Magpies broke their transfer record on striker Joelinton, who joined for nearly £40m earlier this summer.
