Newcastle United's deal to sign Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga has collapsed.
The Mali international was in London this week to complete the deal, which would have taken him from the Stade Auguste Bonal to the Sports Direct Arena, but failed his medical.
"I am disappointed at this turn of events," said agent Karim Aklil, according to The Mirror. "Modibo is in perfect physical condition, which was confirmed by one of the leading experts in the field. I am quite surprised.
"I am convinced that the future will prove us right. Modibo remains one of the best strikers in the Championship of France."
Newcastle, who had been in the running for Maiga since last summer, are now expected to look elsewhere.
