Watford midfielder Will Hughes has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old made 21 starts and nine substitute appearances last season as the Hornets earned an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, according to The Sun, Xisco is prepared to part ways with the Englishman in order to accommodate the arrivals of Isaac Hayden and Peter Etebo.

The report claims that Hayden could feature in any deal which would take Hughes, who is valued in the region of £12m, to St James' Park.

At a time when the Magpies are working with a restricted budget, a part-exchange deal may appeal to manager Steve Bruce.

With Stoke City eager to part ways with Etebo, Watford are also said to be keen on signing the Nigeria international after his recent loan spells with Getafe and Galatasaray. body check tags ::
