Newcastle United have eyed up a swoop for Inter Milan duo Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu during the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Magpies continue to be linked with a host of names across Europe as Eddie Howe looks to build on an excellent second half of the 2021-22 campaign at St James' Park.
This summer is the first end-of-season window for Newcastle under the stewardship of its Saudi-backed owners, who contributed to a £90m splashing on new signings back in January.
Two of the latest names to be linked with a move to Tyneside over the coming weeks are Dumfries and Calhanoglu, with Calciomercato reporting that the Premier League side have become interested in the pair due to Inter's need to sell players this summer.
The report suggests that the Serie A runners-up need to raise around €60m (£51.5m) in transfer funds this summer, and the selling of Dumfries and Calhanoglu, rated at around €30m (£25.7m) each by the Italian outlet, could allow Inter to retain defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar.
The latter two have been heavily linked with moves to the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain during the transfer window, whilst Inter remain determined to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club on an initial loan deal.
Dumfries made 33 Serie A appearances for Inter last season following his £11m move from PSV back in August, whilst Calhanoglu quickly became an integral part of Simone Inzaghi's midfield, scoring seven goals and registering 12 assists in 34 league appearances following his free transfer arrival from rivals AC Milan during the same window.
