Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to make a big-money approach for Bologna defender Aaron Hickey during the summer transfer window.

Bologna defender Aaron Hickey has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Newcastle United.

The former Hearts teenager has enjoyed a fine campaign in Serie A, contributing four goals and one assist from his 27 appearances.

Hickey's form earned him a call-up to the latest Scotland squad, the 19-year-old making his debut against Austria on Tuesday night, and it now appears that he could be given an opportunity to move to the Premier League.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have been left impressed by Hickey's development this campaign and are prepared to make a big-money approach for his signature.

The Magpies would be expected to pay in excess of £15m for a player who possess a contract at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium until 2024.

However, money is not likely to be an issue with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe being provided with a significant war chest to turn his team into contenders for European qualification next season. body check tags ::
