Newcastle United have reportedly enquired about the availability of Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.
The Magpies, who are sitting in third place in the Premier League table, are on the verge of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
The Newcastle hierarchy are already making plans to build a squad that is capable of competing in Europe's elite club competition.
Since joining the Magpies from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, Kieran Trippier has locked down the right-back spot, but Newcastle may still look to add strength in depth to the right side of their defence this summer.
Newcastle's current alternatives to the England international are Emil Krafth, Harrison Ashby and Javier Manquillo.
Krafth has missed the majority of the season with a long-term injury, while Ashby is still unproven at senior level after joining the club from West Ham United in January.
Manquillo, meanwhile, has struggled for playing time this term, making just five competitive appearances, and he is widely expected to leave this summer.
As a result, Newcastle may decide to bring in a new right-back, and they appear to have identified Dumfries as a potential option.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle have already made initial contact to enquire about the Dutchman's availability.
Although Dumfries has made 43 competitive appearances this season, Inter could sanction a sale as they look to raise funds to improve their financial situation.
The report claims that the Italian giants would be looking to receive a fee in the region of €30m (£26.3m) to part ways with Dumfries.
Since joining Inter from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021, the Netherlands international has scored seven goals and provided 13 assists in 88 games for the club.
Newcastle will attempt to claim a fourth consecutive victory when they welcome title-chasing Arsenal to St James' Park on Sunday. body check tags ::
