Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to rival Scottish champions Rangers for the signature of Vitesse defender Danilho Doekhi.

The 22-year-old has attracted the interest of many British clubs, and his performances have helped Thomas Letsch's side to fourth in the Eredivisie with the second-best defensive record in the league, only behind leaders Ajax.

Vitesse only paid £250,000 to bring the youngster in from Ajax when he was just 20 years old and he has become an integral part of the side, making 34 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.

De Telegraaf reports that Vitesse will not want to allow the youngster to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of next season, and therefore they could cash in on their asset this summer.

It is believed that amongst Newcastle and Rangers are Fulham and Norwich City, who are also keeping an eye on the availability of the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Doekhi made his first-team debut for Vitesse in 2018 and has gone on to make 91 appearances for the club.
