Newcastle United are reportedly set to terminate Matty Longstaff's season-long loan early.
The midfielder joined Aberdeen in the summer with the view of him playing for the Dons for the entire year, but he has struggled for game time, making only five appearances for the club.
The Magpies included an agreement that the deal between the two could be brought to an end if they were not satisfied with the situation.
According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle are set to terminate the loan in January which would see Longstaff make his return to the Premier League outfit.
It is unknown at this time whether or not he would be part of Eddie Howe's plans for the rest of the season, or if the club would look to send him out again until the summer.
The midfielder made his debut in the top flight against Manchester United in October 2019, when he scored the winner, and since that point he has made 14 appearances for the Magpies.
