Adrien Rabiot has reportedly decided that he is not keen on a potential switch to Newcastle United in the near future.
The 29-year-old is currently a free agent for the first time in a while after leaving Serie A side Juventus at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
Rabiot did not spend the summer on holiday, though, with the midfielder a key part of France's quest for Euro 2024 glory in Germany over the course of June and July.
The engine room enforcer started all five of Les Bleus' matches at the continental tournament, including the quarter-final defeat to eventual winners Spain.
During a five-year stint in Turin, Rabiot featured on 212 occasions for the Old Lady across all competitions, finding the net on 22 occasions.
Newcastle lose ground in Rabiot race?
According to Football Insider, a move to St James' Park for former Paris Saint-Germain star Rabiot is unlikely to materialise in the near future.
The report claims that the UEFA Nations League winner is not keen on a switch to Newcastle, who are walking a fine line to avoid breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.
It is understood that Rabiot wants to compete in some form of European club competition this season, a luxury that Eddie Howe's side cannot offer.
The Magpies placed seventh in the Premier League last season, missing out on sixth and a spot in the revamped UEFA Conference League by three points to Chelsea.
There is also said to be a reluctance for a deal from the side of Newcastle, who are not willing to splash out huge wages on the 48-time international.
Newcastle's midfield options
Despite Newcastle failing to sign Rabiot this summer, they still possess arguably one of the best midfield ranks in the Premier League for the 2024-25 campaign.
Following interest from Manchester City, the Magpies managed to keep hold of Brazilian starlet Bruno Guimaraes, who has played alongside local lad Sean Longstaff in recent matches.
Another member of the Selecao, Joelinton has enjoyed his time at St James' Park since moving from a striker role into a goal-getter from the engine room. body check tags ::
