Newport County and Fleetwood Town have played to a goalless draw in their League Two meeting at Rodney Parade this evening.
Both teams had chances early in the first half, as Nathan Pond tested the Newport keeper inside the first 10 minutes, while Rene Howe put the ball just wide at the other end moments later.
Howe remained lively in the opening spell, looking to set up Ryan Burge to break the deadlock, but the midfielder could not get the better of Chris Maxwell with a lob.
Tom Naylor had a good chance shortly before half time, but was unable to keep his header on target, while the visitors appealed for a penalty when the ball struck Lee Minshull, but the referee did not believe that the ball his his arm.
Fleetwood almost gifted the hosts the opening goal early in the second half, when a Robbie Willmott cross was parried into the path of Howe, but the visitors just managed to clear in time.
Fleetwood started to control the possession, but several blocks from Andy Sandell ensured that they could not get a clear sight at goal.
Chris Zebroski tried to cross the ball in for Howe with just over 20 minutes left to play, but the striker sliced his effort well high from just six yards out.
The home side looked more likely to score a late winner, but were unable to find the back of the net before the full-time whistle.
