Cameroon boss Jean-Paul Akono has admitted that he was "completely shocked" to learn that the country were looking for a new coach.
Akono, who replaced Frenchman Denis Lavagne at the helm last September, had been working without a contract.
"I was completely shocked and embarrassed when I heard over state radio yesterday that Cameroon is looking for a new coach," Akono told Reuters.
"I'm confused because negotiations were already ongoing for me to sign a contract with the government.
"In fact, I was called up by the ministry on Friday for discussions with the minister."
It is understood that Cameroon are accepting applications until Thursday.
