Salvador Cabanas could make a return to the football field this weekend for the first time since he was shot in the head two years ago.
The incident in January 2010 left the Paraguayan in intensive care and fighting for his life.
Medical experts had previously said that the 31-year-old would not be able to play professional football again.
However, this Saturday the Paraguay international is expected to feature as part of the Tejedores team that will open up their third division campaign in his homeland.
The striker was named South American Player of the Year in 2007.
