Gillingham winger Chris Whelpdale split his scrotum during the Boxing Day clash with Crawley.

Gillingham winger Chris Whelpdale suffered a split scrotum in a challenge as his side defeated Crawley 2-1 on Boxing Day.

As a result the 22-year-old has now been rated doubtful for Gillingham's next match against Dagenham & Redbridge on Friday.

"It's a horrific injury," Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's absolutely disgusting. He's going to be very sore, and I'm sure his wife won't be too happy either."

Whelpdale joined Gillingham in July following a spell with Peterborough United.
