Former French captain Marcel Desailly has been given the role as an ambassador in Africa for the French Foorball Federation.
Ghana-born Desailly, 43, has been handed the duty of improving the image of the Federation among African nations.
The reputation of French football was damaged recently when the idea of a dual-nationality quota was considered.
"Desailly will be placed in charge of representing the federation in Africa," said FFF chairman Noel Le Graet.
"I see him as an ambassador, though he does not like this term.
"It is about transmitting an image of a more generous France than in recent times and Marcel offered a measured [response] during the quotas and dual-nationality affair and I appreciated that."
Desailly won the 1998 World Cup and 2002 European Championship during a career in which he made 116 appearances for France.
