FC Twente have sacked head coach Co Adriaanse with immediate effect as speculation grows that Steve McClaren is being lined up for a return to the Dutch club.
Adriaanse had only been in charge of the Reds since June 2011.
"Co Adriaanse, the coach of FC Twente, is leaving the Enschede club. FC Twente have terminated his contract with immediate effect," read a statement on the club's official website.
"Chairman Joop Munsterman will explain the departure later today."
McClaren, who guided Twente to the Dutch league title in 2010, is expected to be announced as the club's boss for a second time later today.
