Craig Levein has expressed his delight at Scotland's progression since he took the manager's job in 2009.
Last night Scotland defeated Denmark 2-1, a side positioned 40 places above them in the FIFA rankings.
"Obviously my overriding feeling is one of happiness but we have a long, long way to go," Levein told BBC Scotland.
"The evidence tonight is that we're getting better.
"I was pleased by the fact that a lot of the football we played was excellent. We're trying to develop a new way of playing and the lads are improving in that regard."
Scotland have Euro 2012 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Lithuania coming up next month.
