Danny Murphy has revealed that he is eager to begin a career in management.

The former Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and England midfielder officially announced his retirement from playing earlier this month.

Having now hung up his boots, the 36-year-old has turned his attention to either a role as a coach or manager.

"I'm sure that managing is easier than coaching. Being able to put on good sessions and improve a team, that's tough and that's what I want to do," the Daily Mail quotes Murphy as saying.

"I was a thinker and a talker but I think I became better at helping others around me in a team shape. That's a rare quality in players now, that leadership. Everyone gets on with their own job a little bit more now and I think teams miss that.

"After being in the game and learning from managers as long as I have, I feel I could be good at coaching and managing. I've got a lot to learn but I've got more to give."

Murphy made almost 600 appearances during his 20-year playing career.
