The Premier League are reportedly a step closer to holding meaningful games abroad with plans to hold a pre-season tournament in the United States next year.

Plans are in place for a new enhanced pre-season tournament involving six top clubs to be held in the US next summer.

They have been inspired by the success of the NFL games that have taken place overseas and they see the potential for huge financial gains by holding matches in the US.

According to The Athletic, plans are being put in place for a round-robin pre-season competition in US next July with the hope that it will involve at least one club from the 'big six'.

There is plenty of interest in the US, as they see it as a great opportunity to build awareness ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which is set to take place in Canada, Mexico and America.

The report claims that 14 clubs in the Premier League are interested in taking part and they are looking to create an enhanced version of the Premier League Asia Trophy, a pre-season tournament that a lot of Premier League clubs have competed in since its inception in 2019. body check tags ::
