FIFA's ethics committee have recommended that president Sepp Blatter should be suspended for 90 days, according to reports.
Discussions were held this week after criminal proceedings were opened against Blatter over a £1.3m payment made to UEFA president Michel Platini.
A number of reports claim that the ethics committee have recommended the ban, but judge Joachim Eckert is yet to make a final decision.
If the ban is implemented Blatter's reign as FIFA president, which runs until February, would effectively be over.
The 79-year-old maintains his innocence.
