Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has officially retired from football following a glittering 20-year professional career.

The 37-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, winning the Ballon d'Or in 2005 and being named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

Ronaldinho also helped Brazil to win the 2002 World Cup, making 97 appearances for his country during a 14-year international career which saw him score 33 goals.

At club level Ronaldinho represented Gremio, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan, winning three league titles and the 2006 Champions League before returning to Brazil to see out his career.

"He has stopped, it is ended. We will do various events in Brazil, Europe and Asia and, of course, we are arranging something with the Brazilian team as well," Ronaldinho's brother and agent Roberto Assis is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Ronaldinho has been without an official club since leaving Fluminense in 2015, although he has played in a number of exhibition matches since then.
