The opening weekend of the La Liga campaign has been postponed because of strike action by players.
The new season was due to commence on Saturday but the authorities have been forced to cancel all matches as the dispute continues.
Talks between the Spanish Football League and the players' union broke down on Wednesday and attempts to resurrect them earlier today failed.
The issue is related to the current wage structure in Spanish football.
"We put on the table today our positions, which are very far apart," said Spanish Football League chairman Jose Luis Astiazaran.
"We are concentrating now on being able to save the second day."
Discussions have been planned for tomorrow and Monday in a further attempt to reach an agreement.
