Port Vale defender Adam Yates has agreed a one-month loan switch to Northampton Town.
The 32-year-old, who joined Vale from Morecambe in 2009, has made over 200 appearances for the League One club.
However, he will now spend the next four weeks at Sixfields, where he has been allocated the number 23 shirt.
"Adam is a consistent performer and he adds some more experience to the squad which we were looking for," manager Chris Wilder told the club's official website.
"He has played a lot of games in League One and League Two and he gives us that stability. He is another strong character to add to the group that we've already got and I'm sure he will have no problems fitting in to what we are trying to do."
It is expected that Yates will be in the squad for tomorrow night's League Cup tie against Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
