Nottingham Forest beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 in their Championship clash at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have beaten Queens Park Rangers 2-0 in their Championship match at the City Ground.

Greg Halford should have given the hosts the lead, but after being played through on goal, he was denied by Robert Green.

He had another chance soon after, however fired over the bar when well-placed just inside the box. Henri Lansbury was next to threaten for the home side when he cut in from the left and fired a strike just wide of the post.

Forest took the lead in the 29th minute of the match when Halford headed in Djamel Abdoun's cross from close range.

QPR came close when Niko Kranjcar worked some space for himself just outside the box, but he placed his curling effort wide.

Halford wasted a glorious chance of a second following the break, but after latching onto Jamie Mackie's pass, he couldn't connect with the ball properly and directed his attempt straight at the keeper from close range.

Jack Hobbs came close to extending the home side's lead, but after the ball broke to him inside the box following a mistake from Green, he saw his goalbound effort cleared off the line by Clint Hill.

Jeremaine Jenas was within inches of levelling the scores, but his powerful strike from outside the box took a slight deflection of Lansbury, that took it over the bar.

The home side scored their second of the game with 10 minutes to go in a moment of real controversy.

A long pass found its way through to Andy Reid who ran through on goal before sliding the ball past the keeper, however the visitors were certain that he was offside and had stopped playing.

Kranjcar came close to pulling a goal back for the visitors in stoppage time, however his long range effort drifted wide as Forest held on to move up to fifth in the Championship table.
