Championship side Nottingham Forest sack manager Mark Warburton on the back of successive home defeats over the festive period.

Championship side Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Mark Warburton following a run of four games without a victory.

The 55-year-old leaves the City Ground after nine months in charge, having been brought in shortly after his acrimonious departure from Rangers earlier this year.

Warburton took charge of 37 games in total, losing 14 of those this season alone, and a disappointing recent run - with just one win in seven - has cost the Englishman his job less than a year into a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Forest, currently 14th in the Championship table, lost 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day and 3-0 to strugglers Sunderland on Saturday.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that the contracts of Mark Warburton and David Weir have been terminated with immediate effect.

"The club can also confirm that Frank McParland has left the club. Academy Manager Gary Brazil has been appointed caretaker manager and has assumed his new duties this morning.

"The club would like to thank Mark, David and Frank for all their efforts during their time at the City Ground."

Forest return to action on New Year's Day with a trip to face Leeds United, before playing host to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
