Nottingham Forest have reportedly agreed terms on a swap deal with Bologna between Remo Freuler and Nicolas Dominguez.
After last summer's hectic transfer window, which saw Forest buy over 20 players, this time around their business has not been as scattergun.
However, with just two days left of the window, Steve Cooper looks set to get his wish of improving the squad as they look to retain their place in the Premier League again.
Deals for Nuno Tavares, Murillo, Wilfried Ndidi and Odysseas Vlachodimos are all believed to be in the works, and Dominguez now looks set to be added to that list.
Fabrizio Romano claims that a straight swap deal with Bologna involving Freuler has been agreed.
Bologna are said to have enquired about Freuler earlier this summer, and Forest's interest in Dominguez, who is in the final year of his contract, opened up talks about a potential swap.
Dominguez was dropped from the Bologna side that he has been captaining so far this season for their clash with Juventus at the weekend, only starting as a substitute.
The midfield enforcer has featured regularly in his three-and-a-half years at the Renato Dall'Ara, helping them to an impressive ninth-placed finish last season.
Dominguez's performances for the Rossoblu also earned him caps for the Argentina national side, but he was not selected for the World Cup-winning squad, unlike recent Forest recruit Gonzalo Montiel.
The deal will see Freuler move back to Serie A just 12 months after he left Atalanta BC for the Premier League.
Freuler has not played any competitive minutes for Forest since their 3-2 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool back in April.
The Switzerland international spent six-and-a-half years in Bergamo, and was a near-ever present for La Dea during a vintage period for the club.
Atalanta were Champions League regulars between 2019 and 2021, reaching the quarter-finals in 2020 with Freuler a pivotal role in that side under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Now, Freuler will look to take Bologna to the next step after they narrowly missed European qualification by just two points last season. body check tags ::
