Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett has conceded that he would "potentially be interested" in signing Robert Tesche this summer.
The German midfielder had a loan stint with the Blues last year before returning to his parent club Nottingham Forest.
However, with his contract at the City Ground due to expire at the end of the season, Rowett has opened the door for the 28-year-old to return to St Andrew's.
"Like any other team if Forest don't re-sign him or if he chooses to see what happens elsewhere, then of course we would potentially be interested," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"I went to watch Forest on Saturday with half an eye on one or two things. Certainly to run the rule over Robert once again.
"We will see, he is Forest's player still and it's up to them what they want to do. But of course that type of quality player, and that stature of player, is what I believe we need for next season."
Tesche has scored one goal from his 24 appearances for Forest this term.
