Former England captain David Beckham has confirmed that he has not been included in Team GB's Olympic squad.
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder was widely tipped to be named as one of three over-aged players in Stuart Pearce's side.
Despite speculation, the 37-year-old has announced that the England Under-21s coach has opted against including him in the final 18-man squad.
"Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me," Beckham told Associated Press. "So I would have been honoured to have been part of this unique Team GB squad.
"Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold."
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy and Manchester United playmaker Ryan Giggs are thought to be options for the squad.
