Christian Panucci has been appointed the new technical director of Serie A club Palermo.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan defender has revealed that he was desperate to make a return to the game, having hung up his boots in 2010 following a stint with Parma.
"Palermo are giving me a wonderful opportunity and I didn't need to think twice," he said. "It is time for me to come back into the game."
Palermo are currently tenth in the Serie A table with ten fixtures remaining.
