Lionel Messi: 'Argentina fell asleep against Paraguay'

Lionel Messi claims that Argentina fell asleep when throwing away a two-goal lead againts Paraguay in their opening game of the Copa America.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has admitted his frustration after his side threw away a two-goal lead against Paraguay in the Copa America.

Last year's World Cup finalists led 2-0 at half time thanks to Sergio Aguero and a Messi penalty, but were pegged back after the break by Nelson Valdez and a last-minute equaliser from Lucas Barrios.

Messi has warned his side that there can be no more room for error, and must improve when they face defending champions Uruguay on Tuesday.

Goal reports Messi as saying: "We played well in the first half, but we fell asleep in the second. We should have put the game to bed when they came on to us.

"Obviously it's frustrating to be held to a draw after being 2-0 up, but we have to move on, think about Uruguay and improve. We have to keep the ball a bit more and manage the game."

Uruguay opened their title defence with a narrow victory over Jamaica yesterday.
