League One roundup: Leyton Orient suffer first defeat

Leyton Orient slump to their first defeat in League One season following a 3-1 loss to Coventry City, but Peterborough fail to capitalise.

Leyton Orient slumped to their first defeat of the season as Coventry City eased to a 3-1 victory over the League One leaders at the Sixfields Stadium.

David Mooney spurned the opportunity to cancel out Carl Baker's 10th-minute opener as his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Joe Murphy, before the Sky Blues punished the error with further goals by Franck Moussa and Leon Clarke respectively.

Yohann Lasimant netted a late consolation for Russell Slade's men, but it would prove a case of unlucky 13 for the Londoners who failed to extend their 12-game undefeated run.

Coventry, who began the season with a 10-point deduction, move up to 14th in the standings, while the O's remain at the summit on goal difference after Peterborough United were left having to accept a point in a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United at London Road.

Darren Ferguson's men could have knocked Orient off top spot for the first time this season, as Posh were left frustrated by a resolute performance from the Blades to deny them victory.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers moved to within three points of the top two following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic at Molineux.

James Henry registered his first goal for the club as he fired Wolves into a 1-0 lead shortly after half time, before marksman Leigh Griffiths doubled the advantage to keep Kenny Jackett's men - who have a game in hand - within touching distance of Orient and Peterborough.

Down the bottom of the table, Bristol City remain the only team in the division who are yet to earn a victory, as Sean O'Driscoll's men were trumped 2-1 by Brentford.

The clash took some 79 minutes to come to life, as Sam Saunders opened the scoring for the visitors before Clayton Donaldson's 86th-minute strike secured the points.

Marlon Harewood struck in the dying embers, but it would prove little more than a consolation as the Robins remain rooted to the foot of the standings.

Carlisle United bounced back from defeat to Oldham Athletic last week with a 1-0 defeat away to MK Dons, with Lewis Guy's 35th-minute strike sufficient for Greg Abbot's men.

Elsewhere there were good victories for Port Vale and Stevenage, both of whom recorded 3-0 wins over Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra respectively.

Stevenage raced into a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes in their clash with the Railwaymen, courtesy of a Felipe Morais double either side of a Luke Freeman strike, while goals from Louis Dodds, Doug Loft and Ben Williamson secured a comfortable victory for Vale.
