Karl Robinson: 'MK Dons weren't ruthless enough'

MK Dons coach Karl Robinson says that his team lacked the killer instinct to pounce on the numerical advantage handed to them by the nine men of Peterborough United.

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has admitted that his team were not ruthless enough to capitalise on their numerical advantage in their 2-1 defeat to nine-man Peterborough United.

Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Mark Little were both shown straight red cards during the visit of the Dons, who forced Posh into producing a herculean defensive effort to withstand the pressure applied on them.

Speaking to the club's official website, the 33-year-old coach acknowledged the resolve of Darren Ferguson's men, but believes that the result could have been different had his team located the jugular.

"You have to take your hat off to their defenders and goalie," Robinson said. "It was as good a goalkeeping performance as I've seen for a long time.

"I don't think we could have done anymore, just maybe lady luck wasn't with us for large parts of the game.

"We had 36 shots and we just didn't take them. We have got to be more ruthless than that when we get in the final third.

Lee Tomlin and Britt Assombalonga fired the 10-man hosts into an unlikely 2-0 lead at half time, before Izale McLeod halved the deficit with 15 minutes remaining.
